RANGE PROFICIENCY--ARE YOU READY?

A total of 50 rounds are fired during the range qualification test. To pass, you must score a 70% (175 out of a possible 250 points). The target is a human-shaped silhouette measuring 45 by 24 inches. All shooting is from the ready position; no holster shooting or readying your gun from the concealed position is allowed.

Course of fire:

3 yard line – 20 shots

1 shot in 2 seconds, 5 times
2 shots in 3 seconds, 5 times
5 shots in 10 seconds, once

7 yard line – 20 shots

5 shots in 10 seconds, once
1 shot in 3 seconds, 5 times
2 shots in 4 seconds, once
3 shots in 6 seconds, once
5 shots in 15 seconds, once

15 yard line – 10 shots

2 shots in 6 seconds, once
3 shots in 9 seconds, once
5 shots in 15 seconds, once

Scoring:

8,9 and 10 rings = 5
7 ring = 4 points
Within the silhouette and outside of rings = 3 points

To carry out a qualification attempt, one must be able to load, grip, aim and safely shoot 50 rounds of ammunition in a timed shooting exercise. If one is NOT properly prepared to shoot, that person will be dismissed from the range.

Shooters must have:

  1. Eye and hearing protection, high neckline shirt and closed toe shoes
  2. One handgun (revolver or semi-automatic) without any sighting assist device such as a laser, scope or red dot optic
  3. One EMPTY magazine
  4. At least 50 rounds of range approved ammunition
  5. Students MAY use a speed loader or load-assist if they wish
